Project Intro : Noob Does It

How better to introduce this than a project I feel so passionately about but started very impulsively. “Noob Does it” is one of my passion projects where I’m teaching myself how to sew. The sewing part is going excellently but the posting my progress part? oh, yeah! Did I mention it’s a YouTube channel? *facepalm* nope. Terrible. I posted 1 video and said “see you next week!”… It’s been 6 months and I have 2 unedited videos just taking up space in my phone and computer storage. I am slowly trying to get bcak on to that wave again but while i’ve already filled my plate with a lot of other projects, It might be a few weeks before another video comes out.

In this video I make a cube beanbag out of old cushions, I was a really fun project and one of the first sewing projects I did entirely on my own and I’m really proud of that. Yes, I did manage to completely forget to record the sewing part but the prep and the stuffing part are all there. As a lovely reminder, this beanbag is still alive and thriving in my living room, looking a lot more plump than it did in the end of the video. Might write another blog about the experience but don’t wait for that as I can barely remember.

Watch the first (and only, as of writing this) video here!

Something else I am really proud about in this project is the graphics I made on Canva!

Here they are on the YouTube channel, both the profile picture and the banner which is also responsive for all screen sizes. In terms of design, I was inspired by 2 other designs I found on Canva and put my own twist on it.

On the left are the 2 Canva designs that inspired me, I couldn’t find the names of the designers but I linked the listing on Canva, just click the image to see. I loved the look of head in the clouds idea and making a cartoon version of myself. Once spending almost an hour customising my avatar and working out the best colour pairings, I changed the whole aesthetic to a blue/black with grey clouds and found a cute dress form png to put in the back. Also I made an intro and outro to my video (as seen in the beanbag one). Just like this but animated.

The next video I planned to do was a “3 ways to make a tote bag” video and I found 3 tote bag styles on Pinterest, went through all of my old fabrics, spent 2 hours winding up a bobbin, made a tote bag, had a breakdown mid video and when editing it all… had another breakdown. Editing this video was the most painful experience. I can’t even explain how embarrassing it is that this video exists and a tote bag doesn’t (it does but its awful and i don’t think it could hold anything even if you begged it). After recording it, a company I do a lot of sewing workshops with (Trashion Factory) actually hosted a tote bag workshop and i thought that was a brilliant idea and I could change the video to before workshop tote, workshop and after. Went back into editing the video with that mentality and had another breakdown. I think I might actually be traumatised by this experience.

I do have a new project brewing but I’m not going to mention it because i plan on writing a whole blog about it later anyways. So… new things coming soon 👀.
